Monsters in the Dark

As a child one dreams of ghosts and gouls, keeping them awake in the dark of the night. Yet as that child grows they grow out of their nightmares. That is until new ones take shape. For an athlete this newly deveolpoed nightmare is getting sick, and its no longer a monster but the scratchy throat and chills that keep them up at night.
Dramatisation?
Ok maybe a little bit but catching a cold does cause some serious problems for an athlete in training. catching one at the the wrong time can be disastrous. thanks to a nasty bug going around the last week and a half of June was not, how i planned it. Iinstead of attending an intensity block camp and ramping up the volume, i mopped around the house drinking tea and watching more soap telivision then any man should ever see. While incredibly boaring this was i feel the right decision. I have many times in the past when gotten sick cotinued traing at full throtle, resultng in me bocoming tired and extending m recovery time from the virus.
I think its important to note tha sometimes the body is smater then the mind and tells you when its time to back off training.

I now have recovered from the cold and have started training fu
lly again. I have nearly a week under my belt now and did my first intensity session in over two weeks. Suffer fest! Its been a good week with some river surfing, lots of TDF, lots of training, and good times with the freinds.

Then plan now is to ramp up the volume for the next 2 weeks and a bit. take a short rest, then kick off augaust in style with an intensity block. On a side note my sister just got back from a 6 month bike tour in africa wher they rode ove 10 000km. I am very pleased to announce that a small town in Nambia, Africa has decided to name itslef after me... or something like that
