The last few days in Canmore have been well, Cold! Most days have however been very tolerable with mid day highs getting up to -16C or so. Its crazy to think that just over a week ago we were still running in shorts, before being hit full on by winter. Between the two big snowfalls we got and the incessant snow making the trails are really shaping up. I skied on trails that haven't been groomed in years the other day!
Today however the temperature was a bit bellow what i would call ideal for skiing, at -29 when i left for training. For this reason we spent the morning in the gym working on some core and a bit of speed strength. This afternoon I'll hit up a short ski and see how long I can last out there.
Outside of skiing I've been spending some time at the local coffee shops, and the other night my friend Jess and I went to a wing night at silvertip. Now my heat tolerance with food is something I pride myself on. So we ordered a plate of there hottest wings, and got a little cocky. We started telling the waiter that the wings were weak. He of course tells the chef about the cocky kids chirping his wings, and the he makes a special order free of charge. Lets just say he wiped the smirks of our face. These things were crazy. Much sweating and even a few tears ensued.
The race season is getting close with the first real races starting in just under two weeks. They are Alberta Cups, as well as Canada Winter Games qualifiers and are taking place here in Canmore. To test our form and get ready for this, we are doing some time trials with the Alberta World Cup Academy starting on Thursday. Hope they go alright!
